The assessment consisted of a combination of interviews and operational analyses. We are supporting Dublin Airport on a larger transformation project aimed at improving the security process. As part of this project, we identified a number of initiatives aimed at improving the current planning of the security – focused at lane planning and staff planning. We facilitated six workshops to secure the successful implementation of the initiatives. Implementation is ongoing and we are continuing to assist DUB. Further to this, we carried out a capacity analysis for the security checkpoints at their two terminals, analyzing the 365 days of 2015, partly based on realized data, partly on forecasted data. Head of Airport Security Planning & Performance Management
Geneva International Airport engaged with Copenhagen Optimization to carry out a study of how to optimize the staff planning for the security checkpoint operation in GVA. The aim of the study was to assure efficient use of the staff, thereby improving the performance of the security checkpoint in GVA. A series of optimization initiatives were proposed. One of the conclusions of the study was that shifts and rosters could be adjusted in order to eliminate approx. 90% of the periods with insufficient staff, while keeping the cost base constant.See the case studySee the case study
Greater Toronto Airport Authority engaged with Copenhagen Optimization to carry out a study of how to optimize the operation of the check-in and baggage outbound facilities in Terminal 3 at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The aim of the study was to assure efficient use of the current infrastructure before adding additional capacity. The study concluded that demand could be reduced by 15% – 20% at check-in and baggage by working smarter.See the case studySee the case study

Following the completion of the optimization study of check-in and baggage, we were contracted by Toronto Pearson International Airport to create a Baggage Strategy aimed at improving the baggage operation at Toronto Pearson. Through a series of workshops, we identified 6 strategic aims which were broken into 21 strategic initiatives. The focus of the strategy is to improve the transfer baggage performance and increase efficiency of the operation by working smarter. To support the quantification of the strategy, 53 KPIs were identified of which 15 -20 KPIs have been formed into a daily performance report delivered by Copenhagen Optimization to Toronto Pearson.
Swedavia, the operator of 10 Swedish airports, engaged with Copenhagen Optimization (CopOpt) to create an assessment of the quality of the capacity planning for Stockholm Arlanda. The assessment commenced with a review of the current Swedavia approach to capacity planning. The focus was to accurately describe the current planning scheme and building on this, to identify options for improving the planning and execution of the operation. This was done by comparing to a 5-step best practice capacity planning methodology developed by CopOpt. Initiatives were presented aimed at closing the identified gaps allowing Stockholm Arlanda to significantly improve their planning capabilities.See the case studySee the case study

Before establishing Copenhagen Optimization, Kasper headed the unit Operational and Business Analysis at Copenhagen Airport. Anders Dohn and Tor Justesen, now part of Copenhagen Optimization, were also part of unit (Anders later switched to become head of Security resource management). The focus of the unit was to identify and implement initiatives aimed at increasing the efficiency of the operation. Apart from this, the unit was also responsible for planning and performance evaluation of the check-in allocation as well as creating and evaluating the security checkpoint plans. Significant results were achieved including a 26% reduction in the demand for check-in counters. Further to this, an increase in the yearly throughput in number of items per FTE at the security checkpoint was achieved, from 38,900 items per year to 55,200 items per year, an increase of 42%. After establishing Copenhagen Optimization, CPH and Copenhagen Optimization has established a cooperation and are working together on a number of projects.
