London Stansted Airport is London’s third-busiest airport, currently serving around 28 million passengers a year. Many leading low-cost scheduled airlines have made Stansted their base. London Stansted Airport is located 68 km northeast of central London.
In February 2013, Manchester Airport Group (MAG) acquired London Stansted Airport, with ownership and operations handed over in a seamless process, ensuring staff and passengers could take advantage of the airport facilities as usual. MAG also owns and runs Manchester and East Midlands airports.
Introduction to the collaboration with MAG and London Stansted.
Manchester Airport Group (MAG) has chosen Better Airport® as their forecasting and planning solution. The first part of the implementation has been the roll-out of Better Forecast, Better Security, Better Border, and Better Demand at London Stansted Airport (STN).
Manchester Airport (MAN) and East Midlands Airport (EMA) are to follow.
The Solution: Better Forecast, Better Security, and Better Shift
Better Forecast has improved the forecasting accuracy while also decreasing time consumption substantially. Given the circumstances due to COVID-19, STN has seen a major impact of having a precise, dynamic, and automated forecasting solution.
Better Security is providing a direct and automated link to the forecasted passenger numbers while also  reflecting changes in the flight schedule. Hence, several spreadsheet tools, which were expertise dependent and volatile in operation, has been eliminated.
Adding to the original scope, STN has expanded their use of Better Security to facilitate planning across departments by including planning and execution of staff demand, supply, and break optimization. This way, Better Airport has become a common operating platform across functions, which has eased cooperation between departments and increased the trust in operating plans.
Outcome achieved:
- Demand planning based on accurate passenger forecast.
- Â Reduced time spent on forecasting and operational planning.
- Â Optimization of staffing levels and break planning.
- Increased collaboration between departments.
- Â Elimination of numerous spreadsheets.
