Better Airport in Numbers

2024 has been a big year for Better Airport. We’re now optimizing operations in 41 airports—that’s 5 more than last year.

Better Airport helped create seamless journeys for 1.178 billion passengers—roughly 12% of all air travelers globally.

From shorter queues to smoother operations, Better Airport isn’t just software. It’s making travel seamless, simpler, and more predictable for millions.

Expanding horizons – 2 new continents

This year, Better Airport marked a major milestone by entering two new continents—Oceania and South America. With this expansion, Better Airport is now present in five out of seven continents, leaving only Africa and Antarctica uncovered.

In South America, we introduced our Virtual Queuing solution at Carrasco International Airport (MVD) in Uruguay. Passengers can now reserve a specific time slot for security checkpoints, making the process faster and more efficient.

Meanwhile, in Oceania, we partnered with Sydney Airport to roll out our Better Airport® solution. This initiative focuses on increasing passenger growth potential within the existing infrastructure by optimizing check-in counters, stands, and gates.

New module developed: Better Shift for smarter staff planning

This year, we launched Better Shift. It’s already live at several airports, and we’re rolling it out to more as we speak.

Shift planning in airports is complex and time-consuming, often relying on outdated systems. As a result, airports often end up overstaffed at times and understaffed at others—driving up OPEX costs and frustrating passengers.

Better Shift changes that. It uses predictive analytics to create rosters that align staff schedules with passenger flow and flight schedules. It also ensures compliance with labor laws and safety regulations, factoring in staff qualifications, skill sets, and certifications to deliver the right mix of staff for every shift.

Better Airport Summit 2024

Every year, we welcome our clients and partners to the heart of Copenhagen for the Better Airport Summit—and 2024 was no different.

This year, we brought together over 30 experts from airports across Europe and North America, creating a space for collaboration and fresh ideas. It was a room filled with some of the sharpest minds in airport operations.

Over two days, speakers shared insights and innovative ideas into airport operations. From tackling real-world challenges to learning what’s working at other airports, the Summit delivered practical takeaways and valuable connections.

New employees

This year, seven new employees joined Copenhagen Optimization, helping us pursue our mission — creating seamless experiences for passengers worldwide by making airport operations simple and efficient.

We are a team of 53 dedicated employees, and we think of ourselves as international at heart. In fact, we counted: 20 nationalities are represented among our 53 colleagues.
